On its level fairways shaded by umbrella pines and close to the sea, every moment is a privilege – whether you play the 18-hole Old Course or the 9-hole Grand Duc. No one is exactly sure who lays claim to preparing the original eighteen-hole course, though the renowned course designer Harry Colt certainly assisted with the redesigning of it. As a consequence, his trademark deep and well-shaped bunkers are a regular feature.
Pines and tight fairways
The Old Course has been constructed on a flat landscape with fairways weaving between a small forest of huge parasol pine trees which have the effect of narrowing a number of fairways.
If you possess a good “fade or draw” shot it will be required on more than one occasion.
At 6,320 yards, the Old Course is not long, but unusually after two holes you will need to take a small pontoon ferry to holes 3 to 12 and return the same way to complete holes 13 to 18.
Great fun and a quality golf course awaits.
